After returning home to the big city from being away, I realized that I didn’t give myself enough credit for how responsible and put together I am (if you don’t mind me saying so myself). Monday was quite the day; full of massive e-mail and phone correspondences with co-workers, customers and contractors regarding broker tours and cyclic tasks. I could hardly find a moment to eat, let alone figure out what to wear.
My day-to-day attire usually resembles what a janitor might wear, but when evening falls and the bewitching hour comes upon me, I magically become a fashionista. Several months back I was at Q-Bar in the Castro during their Monday night 1$ drink special. While waiting in the unisex bathroom line, a very well dressed man asked what I did for a living. When I told him, he replied, ” I love it when people who don’t work in the fashion industry dress fashionably!” I blushed and thanked him. Fast forward to this past Saturday, another well dressed man asked me what I did for a living and then offered me an interview for a job in retail. I hesitated; A. I already have a job; B. I was once again at a bar ; C. I purposely never worked a day in retail. That suddenly changed when he unexpectedly followed up the next day. Images of clothes, well-dressed men and creative explosions filled my head.
I had the interview yesterday, for an innovative, high-end men’s clothing company called NICE Collective. Their unique and sincere approach to fashion blows my mind. I walked away from the informal interview with confidence and gusto. My heels clicked on the pavement with delight. This perhaps marks the dawn of a new chapter in my life–I’ll keep you posted.
Enjoy your week!
